Syncing Your Calendar with Google Calendar

Keep your personal calendar in sync with your Scritches bookings. When you connect Google Calendar, all your appointments automatically appear in a dedicated "Scritches" calendar - no manual entry required.

Plan requirement: Google Calendar sync is available on Solo Pro and Growth plans.

How to Set Up Google Calendar Sync

  1. Go to your Calendar

  2. Click the Settings button (gear icon) in the top right

  3. Find Sync with Google Calendar

  4. Toggle the switch to enable

  5. Sign in with your Google account when prompted

  6. Authorize Scritches to access your calendar

  7. Wait for the initial sync to complete

The first sync may take a moment if you have many upcoming bookings. A dialog will show the sync progress - don't close or refresh the page until it completes.

Once connected, a dedicated "Scritches" calendar appears in your Google Calendar with all your upcoming bookings.

What Gets Synced

Every upcoming booking in Scritches automatically syncs to Google Calendar with full details:

  • Event title: Client name and service (e.g., "Sarah Johnson • Dog Walking")

  • Client address: Full address for easy navigation

  • Pet information: Names, species, and breeds

  • Access instructions: How to get in (key location, gate codes, etc.)

  • Booking notes: Any special instructions

  • Direct link: Click to open the booking in Scritches

This means you can view everything you need for each appointment right from Google Calendar, even when you're on the go.

Understanding One-Way Sync

This sync is one-way only:

  • ✅ Changes in Scritches → automatically update Google Calendar

  • ❌ Changes in Google Calendar → do NOT update Scritches

Always make booking changes in Scritches, not in Google Calendar. Google Calendar is for viewing your schedule, not managing it.

If you edit or delete an event in Google Calendar, it won't affect the actual booking in Scritches - and the change will be overwritten the next time that booking syncs.

What Happens After Setup

Once connected, everything is automatic:

  • New bookings sync to Google Calendar when created

  • Updated bookings sync when you make changes

  • Cancelled bookings are removed from Google Calendar

  • All upcoming bookings stay in sync continuously

You don't need to do anything - just create and manage bookings in Scritches as usual.

Viewing Your Synced Events

  1. Open Google Calendar

  2. Look for "Scritches" in your calendar list (left sidebar)

  3. Make sure it's checked/visible

  4. Your bookings appear as events

Click any event to see the full details including client address, pets, access instructions, and a link back to the booking in Scritches.

Tip: You may need to refresh Google Calendar to see newly synced events.

Disconnecting Google Calendar

If you need to disconnect:

  1. Go to your Calendar Settings

  2. Toggle off Sync with Google Calendar

Your existing events will remain in Google Calendar, but they'll stop syncing. You can reconnect anytime and your bookings will sync again.

Troubleshooting

Events not appearing in Google Calendar

  • Refresh Google Calendar (or close and reopen the app)

  • Check that the "Scritches" calendar is visible (checked in the sidebar)

  • Wait a few minutes - syncing can take a moment

Initial sync is taking a long time

  • This is normal if you have many upcoming bookings

  • Don't close or refresh the page during sync

  • The dialog will close automatically when complete

I accidentally deleted an event in Google Calendar
When sync is enabled, Scritches will automatically recreate any deleted events the next time that booking is updated. If you would like this event to be permanently deleted, turn off the sync.

Authorization error

  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting

  • Make sure you're signing in with the correct Google account

  • Check that you granted all requested permissions

Events showing wrong times

  • Google Calendar should display times in your local timezone. If you have changed time zones from your home business, the times displayed will reflect your new time zone.

Other Errors

  • Try initiating the sync from a different browser. This can sometimes fix one-off errors.

  • Color-code the Scritches calendar to make it stand out

  • Share the calendar with family or team members who need visibility

  • Use Google Calendar for viewing, Scritches for managing

  • Check Scritches for the most accurate info - it's always the source of truth
