How to Share GPS Walk Routes with Clients

Pet owners want to know their dogs are actually getting the walk they paid for, and proving it builds the kind of trust that turns one-time clients into long-term regulars.
While Scritches does not have built-in GPS tracking yet, you can still deliver this experience to your clients today using free apps already on your phone and adding the route to a Scritches Report Card.
βΌοΈ Important: This is a manual workaround that requires remembering to start tracking before each walk. Building it into your routine ensures it happens consistently.
Recommended Tracking Apps
These apps are free, available on iOS and Android, and great for capturing walk routes:
Amiko β Built specifically for dog walking. Tracks distance, time, and route, and even lets you log potty breaks and water stops along the way. The most natural fit for pet care businesses.
Strava β The most popular option. Clean map screenshots and easy to use. Many walkers already have it installed.
Map My Walk β Built specifically for walking routes. Clear route visualization that looks professional in a report card.
Komoot β Produces great route maps. A good option for walks through parks and trails.
Any app that shows a completed route on a clean map will work. The goal is a screenshot your clients can glance at and instantly understand.
How to Share a Walk Route on a Report Card
Arrive at the client's home and start tracking in your app before leashing up.
Stop the session when you return to the client's home.
Screenshot the route summary screen β make sure the route line, distance, and duration are all visible. Zoom in on the map if the route looks too small.
Go to your Calendar or Bookings, open the booking, and navigate to the Report Card.
In the Showcase section, tap Add Photo and select the screenshot.
Add a caption like: "1.2 miles, 30 min walk through Riverside Park"
Save and send the report card.
Pro tip: Add the route as the first or second photo in the showcase so it is one of the first things clients see when they open the report card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do clients need to download a tracking app to see the route? No. You are uploading a screenshot, just a regular image. Clients see it directly in their report card with no app required.
What if I forget to start tracking? Skip the route photo for that visit rather than upload an inaccurate one. Consistency and honesty matter more than perfection.
Can I add a caption explaining the route? Yes, and we recommend it. A short caption like "2.1 miles through the park, stopped at the water fountain twice" adds a personal touch that clients love.
Is this available on all plans? Yes. Report cards and photo uploads are available on all Scritches plans.
Will Scritches build native GPS tracking? It is on our roadmap. We do not have a timeline yet, but we are always working on features that help your business grow. Stay tuned.
